In the “Beach Hill” neighborhood of Santa Cruz, a 1500 SF dwelling will be stacked on top of an existing mid-century modern structure, creating a duplex out of a single-family residence. The addition is organized into two main bands of space, oriented east-west. The north band is more private and contains three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The south band is more public, consisting of one long, open, loft-like space with Living, Dining, and Kitchen spaces that flow into one another. This space, and the two terraces onto which it opens, all afford views to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and the Pacific Ocean beyond.
